PowerTools Lite RC1

Discussion about possible ongoing beta testing programs.

PowerTools Lite RC1

Postby jv16 on Thu May 07, 2009 10:35 pm

Here is the the RC1 version of PowerTools Lite:
http://www.macecraft.com/downloads/PTLite_setup.exe
(If the link doesn't work it means the testing for this version has already ended)

Summary: PowerTools Lite is a very easy to use program for fixing registry errors and cleaning your computer, and it will be released as Freeware.

Do not install this beta version over any existing version but to a new directory. Also, do not uninstall any previous versions of jv16 PowerTools before the installation of this version - this version is a beta version. Beta version means the new product version is not yet finished and is only released for testing purposes in order to find the last remaining problems.

Feel free to start to translate this version to your language, there should not be any more changes to the language interface. The translations include the debug translation X_English which can be used to test and report if parts of the GUI cannot be translated. Note: In order for your translation to show in the Languages menu, change the "ProgDef" section of your translation's Header section from "jv16/RSPro/RS" to "jv16/PTLite"

Please send all your translations to: veera.peltonen@macecraft.com, in order to get the included to the final version of the program.

Release notes:
* All the bugs reported on Beta3 should be fixed.
* The Fix button now fix registry errors, and deletes all other data.
* Automatic removal and fixing features of the Start Scan > Advanced options are now working. Be careful if you try them!
* Right Click > Export to .Reg does not work properly under 64 bit OS, other than this, the program is fully 64 bit compatible.

As always, all beta testers who give us valuable feedback such as good quality bug reports or other feedback will be given a free personal license for jv16 PowerTools 2009 when then final product version is released. To be clear, simply downloading the beta version and saying "it works fine" or "it doesn't work" doesn't entitle for a free license.

The final version should be ready in the next 15 days. There might not be RC2, so if you want to participate, you should do it right now.

Yes I also got that message Tullik but only in Vista x64 not in Windows 7 x64.

More problematic in Windows 7 is the fact that any Invalid file or directory references do not get fixed or deleted. All other sections work fine apart from this one.

PTLite v.1.9.0.567 (rc1) run on Vista BE (not SP1)

The issue still exists on my computers in beta3. . . .

The program now lists Temp Files, and includes content from "Temporary Internet Files." :)

This is by design, the version number of the program is shown in the main window's caption bar.

Oh my, that looks bad in a free program  I'll get it fixed for the next version.

The program cannot delete two files:

    1. C:\Windows\Temp\_avast4_\Webshlock.txt -- there is a failed to access message; the file is not backed up (expected; not a problem)

    2. C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\Temp\FXSAPIDebugLogFile.txt -- there is no message (why?); the file is backed up (why?)
Both files are zero bytes and probably in use. I only report this because the handling of the second file doesn't seem quite right. A delete attempt with Windows explorer causes an "in use by another program" message.

I believe PT2009 does it the same way for these files. In any case, this is a very minor issue.

Yes. I liked that with PowerTools also, but it doesn't do it now.

The "Export as .reg file" still does not work in this RC1 in Vista SP2 RTM x64
Platinum VIP License. A clean machine is a screaming machine! Windows 7 x64 Professional on Dell XPS 410, Windows 7 x86 Professional on Dell Vostro 220s

The explore button (...) in the caption area for a file does not do anything. Explore in the file's context menu works properly (i.e., the folder is opened).

When jv16 is used as an ignore word, it does not behave like other ignore words. This has been mentioned before here.

In any case, it's not likely to cause anyone a problem. :|

The program does not "fully" list and clear Temporary Internet Files with the settings slider in the second position (the default). With the most aggressive setting it clears all the files there except C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\index.dat.

This is not a bug, just an "FYI."
